What is the standard size for a church flyer?

The standard church flyer is US Letter, 8.5 × 11 inches, or A4, 210 × 297 millimeters, outside the US. Half-letter, 5.5 × 8.5 inches, and 4 × 6 or 5 × 7 inch cards suit handouts and invites.

  • Print sizes in Design: Letter, A4, Half-letter bulletin, 5 × 7 and 4 × 6 cards, plus more such as Legal and an 11 × 17 inch poster.
  • Print setup: 0.125 inch bleed, and keep text 0.25 inch inside the trim. Print sizes download as a print PDF.
  • A flyer needs no picture. Big type and two colors can carry an invite, as the samples below show.
  • Design is free with any account, with no card needed.

  • Bleed: art runs out here, then gets cut off
  • Trim line: where it is cut
  • Safe area: keep text inside, 0.25 in from trim

A guide, not a printer spec. Bleed of 0.125 in and a 0.25 in safe area are the values Design uses. Printers such as 4over4 ask for text at least 0.125 in inside the trim, and some ask for 3 mm of bleed. Check your printer's own template before you order. Pixels are size in inches times DPI, rounded.

Computes the trim size, the size with 0.125 in bleed, the pixel dimensions at 150 or 300 DPI, the 0.25 in safe-area inset and the aspect ratio for the print sizes Design offers or a custom size. The default is US Letter at 300 DPI with bleed: 8.5 × 11 in trim, 8.75 × 11.25 in with bleed, and 2625 × 3375 px. The preview is captioned as a sample flyer for a fictional church, with placeholder church name and address. In Design, a PNG at the default 2x scale, or a JPG set to 2x, is 300 DPI.

What a church event flyer needs.

Six things, in the order people look for them. Leave out anything that does not help someone decide to come.

  • The event name

Can someone read it from across a room?

It is the biggest thing on the flyer. Write it as people say it, such as Neighborhood Supper.

  • Date and time

Are they together and easy to find?

Write the day of the week, the date and the start time. If doors open earlier, say so.

  • The place

Is the street address on it?

Add the building name only if people use it. Visitors need an address they can type into a map.

  • Who it is for

Does it say who should come?

Ages, families, everyone or new visitors. It answers the question people ask first: is this for me?

  • One next step

Is there one thing to do?

A website, a phone number or a QR code. One action beats three, and a flyer is not a brochure.

  • Your church name

Is it on the flyer, small and clear?

People pass flyers on. The church name tells the next reader who is inviting them.
