Planning and sustainable church communication
Church media calendar for 2027: a 52-week plan for every season
A year of church social media and print planning for 2027: the verified dates for Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Advent and Christmas Eve, plus what to make and when to start for each.

A church media calendar is a one-page plan of what you will make and share each week of the year, built backward from the dates that matter. Start with the big fixed dates (Easter 2027 is Sunday 28 March, Advent starts Sunday 28 November), then add a start-by date for each so you are never designing the week of the event.
This guide gives you the verified 2027 dates, a start-by date and a to-do for every season, and the steady weekly rhythm that fills the weeks in between. It was last checked on 16 October 2026.

A year at a glance for 2027. Dates are for Western churches. VBS, kickoff and baptism dates are examples to swap for your own.
What is a church media calendar?
It is a planning calendar for everything you communicate: social posts, Stories, flyers, bulletin inserts, emails and screen slides. It is not your event calendar. The event calendar says what happens. The media calendar says what you will make about it, who owns it and when it starts.
Church communication tends to peak around a short list of dates, which is why a calendar helps. Free yearly calendars exist, such as the Reachright 2027 church social media calendar, which was read on 16 October 2026 and describes a 365-day spreadsheet, twelve monthly calendars and 108 captions. The plan below is shorter and does a different job: it shows the dates and lead times so you can build your own.
How do you build a 52-week church media calendar?
Use four layers, in this order.
- Pin the fixed dates. Easter moves each year, so look it up before anything else. Then Advent, Christmas Eve, Mother's Day, Father's Day and any denominational days you keep.
- Add your own big events. Vacation Bible School, the fall kickoff, baptism Sunday, a food drive, a camp. Put the first day of each on the calendar.
- Count back to a start-by date. Give each event a start-by date for the first post or flyer. The table below uses four weeks for Easter, baptisms and Advent, six weeks for a youth kickoff, ten weeks for VBS and about ten days for Christmas Eve. These are our working suggestions for a small team, not research findings. Adjust them for your church.
- Fill the gaps with a weekly rhythm. The weeks between events are most of the year. A small, repeatable routine keeps them from going blank. See how often a church should post for a sustainable starting point.
Plan the calendar once, in a spreadsheet or on paper, with one row per week. Columns for the week's date, the season, the event, what to make, who makes it and the date it must be ready are enough.
What are the church dates to plan around in 2027?
These dates are for Western churches. The Lectionary Page 2027 calendar lists the Christian dates, and we checked the weekdays against a calendar on 16 October 2026. Eastern Orthodox churches keep Easter on 2 May 2027, so use your own tradition's calendar if that is you.
| Date | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 6 January | Epiphany | Lectionary Page |
| Wednesday 10 February | Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent | Lectionary Page |
| Sunday 14 February | First Sunday of Lent | Lectionary Page |
| Sunday 21 March | Palm Sunday | Lectionary Page |
| Thursday 25 March | Maundy Thursday | Lectionary Page |
| Friday 26 March | Good Friday | Lectionary Page |
| Sunday 28 March | Easter | Lectionary Page |
| Thursday 6 May | Ascension | Lectionary Page |
| Sunday 9 May | Mother's Day (US) | Second Sunday of May |
| Sunday 16 May | Pentecost | Lectionary Page |
| Monday 31 May | Memorial Day (US) | Last Monday of May |
| Sunday 20 June | Father's Day (US) | Third Sunday of June |
| Sunday 4 July | Independence Day (US) | Fixed date |
| Monday 6 September | Labor Day (US) | First Monday of September |
| Sunday 31 October | Reformation Sunday | Last Sunday of October |
| Monday 1 November | All Saints | Lectionary Page |
| Sunday 21 November | Christ the King | Lectionary Page |
| Thursday 25 November | Thanksgiving (US) | Fourth Thursday of November |
| Sunday 28 November | First Sunday of Advent | Lectionary Page |
| Friday 24 December | Christmas Eve | Lectionary Page |
| Saturday 25 December | Christmas Day | Lectionary Page |
| Friday 31 December | Watch Night | Fixed date |
Two details catch people out. Christmas Day falls on a Saturday in 2027, so Sunday 26 December follows straight after, which affects service plans and the weekend's posts. And the Mother's Day, Father's Day and holiday rows for the US come from the usual date rules, not from a church calendar, so check them if you are outside the US.
What should a church make from January to March?
This quarter is the first big peak: Lent builds toward Holy Week and Easter. The Easter invitation is the one you cannot be late for.
| Start by | What to make |
|---|---|
| Monday 28 December 2026 | Plan Easter: services, rooms, volunteers and the series. About three months out is a good time to decide. |
| Sunday 3 January | Series launch post for the new year. Sermon series ideas for 2027 has passage-based starting points. |
| Wednesday 6 January | One Epiphany post, if your church keeps the day. Short and optional. |
| Monday 1 February | Ash Wednesday post and the Lent series graphic. Ash Wednesday is 10 February. |
| Sunday 28 February | The Easter invitation, four weeks out. Add a flyer for people to hand out. |
| Sunday 14 March | Holy Week schedule: Palm Sunday on 21 March, Maundy Thursday on 25 March and Good Friday on 26 March. |
| Sunday 28 March | Easter morning post and a thank-you in the week after. |
The Easter graphics page has the full four-week posting plan, real templates and sizes. Do not rebuild that plan here: make your own dates match it.
What should a church make from April to June?
The spring is Easter season, then Pentecost, then Vacation Bible School and the summer. Two events need long runways.
| Start by | What to make |
|---|---|
| Sunday 4 April | A baptism Sunday announcement, if you hold one on 2 May (the example used on the baptism graphics page). Ask each person before you post a name or photo. |
| Monday 5 April | VBS save the date, ten weeks before an example week of 14 to 18 June. See VBS graphics for the six-post timeline. |
| Sunday 2 May | A Mother's Day post for Sunday 9 May, one week out. Keep the wording warm and short, and be careful with people for whom the day is hard. |
| Sunday 9 May | A Pentecost post for Sunday 16 May. |
| Monday 24 May | VBS helpers needed, three weeks before the example week. |
| Sunday 13 June | A Father's Day post for Sunday 20 June. |
Ascension on Thursday 6 May and Memorial Day on Monday 31 May are optional. Post about them only if you have a service or a closed office to announce.
What should a church make from July to September?
Summer is the quiet part of the plan, so use it to prepare for fall. Youth groups, small groups and children's classes all restart in September.
| Start by | What to make |
|---|---|
| Sunday 4 July | An Independence Day post only if your church marks the day. Otherwise skip it. |
| Friday 30 July | Youth fall kickoff save the date, six weeks before an example kickoff on Friday 10 September. See youth graphics. |
| Early August | Back to school: school start dates vary by district, so check yours. A blessing of the backpacks post or a short prayer works. |
| Friday 20 August | Kickoff reminder, three weeks out. |
| Monday 6 September | Labor Day weekend post and a "we start again" note for small groups and Sunday school. |
Late summer is also a good time to plan the fall series and order any printed invite cards.
What should a church make from October to December?
The final quarter holds Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas Eve, so it needs the most lead time of the year.
| Start by | What to make |
|---|---|
| Sunday 31 October | A Reformation Sunday post, if your tradition keeps it. A fall festival post if you hold one. |
| Monday 1 November | An All Saints remembrance post, if your church marks it. |
| Sunday 14 November | A Thanksgiving week post for Thursday 25 November: a food drive, a service or a simple thank-you. |
| Sunday 21 November | Advent announcement, one week out, with the series graphic. Christ the King falls the same day. |
| Sunday 28 November | A first candle graphic for the First Sunday of Advent. Add one each Sunday of Advent. |
| Tuesday 14 December | The Christmas Eve invitation, about ten days out. See Christmas graphics for the posting plan. |
| Friday 24 December | A Christmas Eve day-of reminder and a Christmas Day post for Saturday 25 December. |
| Friday 31 December | Watch Night and a thank-you for the year. |
Outreach's Christmas timeline, read on 16 October 2026, advises promoting before Thanksgiving and handing out invite cards in the first two weeks of December. Its advice agrees with this plan: print early, post later.
What fills the weeks between events?
Most of a 52-week calendar is not a holiday. Give each ordinary week the same small set of jobs, so no one has to invent a plan every Monday.
- Monday or Tuesday: a quote or a Scripture graphic from Sunday's message.
- Thursday to Saturday: the invitation for Sunday, with the time and the address.
- Sunday: one post or Story from the service, with the person's permission for any photo.
- The week after an event: a short thank-you with a photo or a plain graphic.
What a church should post after Sunday and a weekly quote-to-Sunday-invite rhythm cover this routine in more detail. The church Instagram post ideas guide has formats for the slower weeks.
How do you make the graphics for the calendar?
Make them in batches by season, not week by week. One afternoon in early January can produce the Lent and Easter set, one in April the VBS and Pentecost set, and so on. Keep one font, one palette and one layout per season so the set looks like one church, which is easier with a saved logo, colors and fonts. For the idea behind that, see consistent church graphics without making every post the same.
For a month-by-month version, see the church social media content calendar template.
You can do this in any design tool. Design by Church Media Kit has church templates for Easter, VBS, youth nights, baptism and Christmas, and a Brand Kit for your logo, colors and fonts. Church Media Kit does not post or schedule for you. You download each file and share it yourself, so keep the calendar's "ready by" column honest.

A last check
- Does every date in your calendar have the right weekday for the year you are planning?
- Does each big event have a start-by date and a name next to it?
- Are the March and November to December weeks scheduled first, before the weeks that feel easy?
- Is there one person who owns each row?
- Have you left room for something unplanned, such as a funeral, a community event or a response to news?
